Photography

One of my main hobbies is photography. I’ve almost always had a camera of one sort or another. For a long time I used Canon EOS SLR cameras; I bought an EOS 650 (the first EOS model) when it was still the current camera, and indeed I still have it.
A few years ago I made the switch to digital photography and eventually bought a second-hand Canon EOS D60. However changes in Canon’s approach (specifically the introduction of the EF-S lens range which wouldn’t fit on the D60) meant that I decided to change, and I took the opportunity to review the whole market. It seemed that the Nikon D70 had the features and performance that I wanted, and bought that together with the 18-70mm ‘kit’ lens, and over the next year or so added a few more lenses: a Tokina 12-24 wide-angle zoom; Nikon 35mm f2 ‘prime’ (i.e.non-zoom) lens; Nikon 55-200mm zoom; and a Sigma 70mm macro lens. I’ve been very pleased with the Nikon equipment.
In spring 2007 I switched from the D70 to a D80, which gave me more pixels, a better viewfinder, bigger rear-screen, and a number of other detailed enhancements. Though in fact I was surprised at how much like the D70 the D80 actually felt; I think the crucial step is to get your first DSLR – subsequent changes are perhaps just incremental. When I bought the D80 I also switched to Capture NX as my image processing software, as I would have needed to upgrade my Photoshop CS software to CS3 to be able to handle raw images from the D80.
The main place I have published my images is on the Cruise Talk website. Here’s a link to one of the first sets I published (taken in Cassis on the French Mediterranean coast). You can use the ‘View All Albums from this User’ link on that page to find my other pages, if you like that one. Those are all cruise-related.
I’ve also posted some images on Photo.Net at this page. I’ll be adding to these.
